The Competition and Markets Authority says buyers should understand who is providing the service, what it costs and what protection applies. Use these checks with every quote:

- 3What is included in the total price, including VAT and add-ons?
- 4Does the quote include storage, copies or future updates?
- 5Is there a subscription or renewal, and how can it be cancelled?
- 6Will the provider ask to be an executor, and what could that cost later?
- 7What complaints process and redress are available?
- 8Is your family, property or tax position too complex for this route?
